Jordan Chiles (23) is a globally recognized, nationally ranked gymnast and Olympic silver medalist. With legendary basketball star Michael Jordan as her namesake, Chiles’ trajectory has, fittingly, been driven by athletic excellence. Her natural abilities as a gymnast were evident from a young age, as she soared through competitive levels, landing her at elite status (the highest level of gymnastics) at just 11 years old. In 2014, Jordan joined the Junior US National Team and the USA Junior Team for the City of Jesolo Trophy in Jesolo, Italy where she embarked on her first international competition and helped her team win gold. In 2016, while competing for the U.S. in Jesolo for the third time, she won the all-around title and qualified to all four events, placing first on vault and second on uneven bars. By 15, she was traveling around the world to compete with the Senior U.S. National Team to the Stuttgart World Cup and Pacific Rim Championships, continuing to collect multiple gold medals for her team along the way. In 2018, Chiles made a career-defining decision to relocate to Spring, Texas to train alongside fellow Olympic gymnast and future teammate Simone Biles at World Champions Centre. It was in 2021 that Jordan found herself at the very top of her game, becoming the first ever women’s all-around Winter Cup champion and finishing first in the all-around, vault, uneven bars and balance beam during the WOGA Classic. Chiles went 24 for 24 that season—the only gymnast to perform at such unparalleled consistency—and was selected to the USA Olympic team at the U.S. Olympic Trials in St. Louis. Her breakout performance at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games catapulted the athlete to a global stage. Following Simone Biles’ unexpected withdrawal, Chiles stepped up to compete in her place—taking on two more events than she had initially trained for. She impressively executed them, clinching the silver medal for Team USA, and solidifying her as the sport’s next breakout star. An outspoken advocate for body positivity and mental health for female athletes, Chiles spent the Fall of 2021 sharing her experiences and empowering audiences across the country in the post-Olympic “Gold Over America” tour. In 2022, Jordan made history at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships as one of 3 Black gymnasts to top the podium for the first time ever. Now, Chiles has returned to compete at the elite level after wrapping up an incredible year as a collegiate athlete, winning 2 NCAA individual titles with UCLA last year, and has since partnered with the iconic sportswear giant as a Nike athlete. Chiles is also the longest consecutive team member in USA Gymnastics history, being named to her 11th national team this past fall and continues to be a trailblazer in her sport and a face-to-watch leading up to the 2024 Olympic Games.
